Charnwood Arts are pleased to announce our Heritage Lottery funded (HLF) project as part of the ‘All Our Stories’ initiative, which will collect stories from the South Asian communities who came to Leicester in the 1970’s from East Africa. A unique event which brought 28,000 people to the UK in a very short period of time, these people came with nothing and had to start over to build a new life.

‘We all occupy spaces but it is the lives and experiences of generations that make places. This project explores the cross cultural and inter-generational legacy of forced and economic migration in the city of Leicester and Leicestershire and in particular the textile trade. It explores industry, commerce, settlement, domestic life, trade and the triangle of relations between India, Africa and the UK.’
